Equine Therapeutic Solutions

ETS encourages horse owners to thoroughly evaluate the credentials and education of any equine practitioner you choose to treat your horses

The titles Physical Therapist and Physiotherapist are protected terms referring to a licensed healthcare professional with Masters or Doctoral level training that has successfully passed board examination to practice physical therapy.  Though the title is protected by law, some unlicensed individuals or other providers do claim to be equine physical therapists or to provide physiotherapy.  Just as a two week course cannot make one competent or legal to practice as a veterinarian or physician, a short course on physical therapy or massage applied to horses does not an Physical Therapist make!

Licensed physical therapists are specialists that have advanced clinical training in kinesiology, biomechanics, musculoskeletal and neuromuscular dysfunction and treatment.  Although a variety of individuals offer therapeutic modalities such as laser, ultrasound, electrical stim, PEMF, etc., the best way to insure that these treatments are used safely, appropriately and in an evidence based manner is by a physical therapist.  PTs are the only healthcare professionals required to have advanced knowledge of the application, indications and contraindications of these devices and show competency through state examination and licensure for their use.

Appropriate credentials combined with experience are the best way to ensure the safe and optimal treatment of your horse.
